TOLL-FREE CALL RECORD COLLECTION...
The client is a U.S.-based telecommunications
company that is one of the leading equipment/service providers in the
industry. The product is a statistical analysis call records system that
provides insight into facilities management, resource allocation,
marketing effectiveness, etc. The product was designed to provide
information on Advanced Toll Free (ATF) and Virtual Private Network (VPN)
calls made over the Network Provider network. The system user reports are
displayed via a Graphical User Interface (GUI).
Unable to support the costs of it's existing
development team, the client needed to implement a cost-saving R&D
strategy which would provide continued support for its products and
existing customers
Comnet's involvement in the engagement began with
the design and development of a customer requested enhancement to
- Netscape Enterprise Server
- Netscape Directory Server– Lightweight
Directory Access Protocol (LDAP)
-
Netscape Certificate Server
- Informix 7.31 Dynamic Server
- IONA CORBA E2A
- Grafsman Reporting package
-
Java GUI (with Swing components)
- Sun OS 2.8
The development cycle for the enhancement occurred
over a 3-month period during which time the Comnet development team worked
closely with a select set of the client's engineers to perform the
knowledge transfer for the product. The Comnet team was entirely
responsible for completing the design, development and testing of the
requested enhancement, which was delivered on-schedule. After the initial
development effort, the team was responsible for transferring the existing
customer lab machines (both for code compilation and for testing) to
Comnet facilities. This included the transfer of not only the hardware,
but also working with the 3 rd party software vendors to arrange the
transfer of licenses, etc. In the first year alone, Comnet was able to allow
the customer to see a cost savings of $1.5 million, while allowing the
existing customer base to remain supported without any disruption in
service.
